Joan Leslie Weidoff was born in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of a former Mayor of Pittsburg and an elementary school teacher. "Joni" as she went by, grew up in the Bay Area, while she spent her summers at the family cabin in Strawberry, located close to Lake Tahoe. 

She met her husband of 46 years while working at Kaiser Hospital on “Pill Hill” in Oakland and together they welcomed two children. Traveling was her favorite pastime and during her first trip to Europe, Joni's photograph was captured in the 1970 "Summer Nomads" issue of LIFE magazine. As an active member of the community, she was instrumental to the opening of the Granite Bay Branch Library in 1995. Joni was a board member of the Sacramento Children's Chorus and a devoted patron of the arts. 

Best remembered for her contagious smile and playful sense of humor, Joni is missed by all who knew her. She lost her brave battle to pancreatic cancer in September 2018 at the age of 67. 

Today, her legacy continues through the Hirshberg Foundation Tribute Fund which helps advance research in pancreatic cancer and brings hope to future generations.
