I am riding in the 14th Tour de Pier this May and am grateful I can. The Tour brings together cancer fighters, survivors, caregivers, family and friends to remember our loved ones lost and help find a cure. It is the best day!!!
Pancreatic cancer took my husband Bill 13 years ago and I ride in his honor. Our kids were pretty young when he passed, and thankfully through genetics and osmosis they possess sweet pieces of their dad. I smile when I see them and the memories come flooding back.
The first smile I had after he died was at the inaugural Tour in 2013. The love and support at the event was next level!! And still is. At the time I was somewhat ignorant of the amazing work done by the benefitting charities. Fast forward and this event has raised $15 million and funds groundbreaking research into early cancer detection and treatment and provides support for patients and families battling the disease.
Breakthroughs through research make headlines. The day to day support provided to caregivers and patients often does not. The impact of loving support during Bill's short fight cannot be overstated. Raising money to help others survive and thrive is an honor.
Join me. Together we will continue making a difference.
