I am a Pollyanna. I believe in living in positivity. I believe in hope. I believe in the goodness of people. I believe in the collective power of Us. And I believe in the power of Yes. YES, WE CAN CURE CANCER!
I have registered to participate in a unique fundraising event called the Tour de Pier. This amazing day of stationary cycling at the beach supports the crucial work of three great charities: the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Uncle Kory Foundation and the Cancer Support Community South Bay.
The 13th Annual Tour de Pier will be held on May 18th. It's my favorite day of the year. Not because I'll be riding my butt off on a spin bike. Nor is it the celebration of my own cancer journey. I rejoice in this day because collectively my community is making a tangible difference in the lives of those struggling to kick cancer.
Jake Stromsborg was one of those who fought cancer. Jake was the best of the best - a kind and thoughtful soul; a loyal classmate; a strong athlete; a loving brother, son and grandson - loved and admired by all. Jake was a fighter. In a school essay he wrote "my mindset was completely made up. I was absolutely never going to let my diagnosis break me down and I was going to become the victor of my circumstance instead of the victim.” True to his words, Jake was never the victim. He fought for himself and for his beautiful family with such courage. Jake lost his fight November 19, 2024. He was just 20 years old. 20 is much too young to battle cancer, let alone fight it for five years. NOW is the time that I take up his mantle to fight to eradicate cancer through Tour de Pier. I pledge to raise as much as I can in his honor. There are far too many stories like Jakes. I will run so they can walk. I will climb so they can soar. I will stomp out cancer with every ounce of my being. Jake, yes, WE can!
Please consider contributing towards my fundraising efforts today. Or if you'd like, you can join me for a day of fun at the beach watching me ride my butt off. I will be riding for Jake and for all those we have lost. Let’s celebrate their memories and honor those who are currently battling this disease. Let's ride in place and move charity forward and shout out loud that
Everything is possible and together we can find a cure - YES, WE CAN - LET'S WIN THIS WAR!
