I'll be riding in place to move charity forward at the Tour de Pier! The Tour de Pier brings hundreds of stationary cycling bikes to the iconic Manhattan Beach Strand to create awareness and raise funds for three outstanding cancer charities: Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Cancer Support Community South Bay and the Uncle Kory Foundation. Please consider contributing towards my fundraising efforts today. Why I ride? I hate cancer. I hate leukemia. Leukemia is a monster. October 2024. My friend Steve Dunlap lost his battle to this monster. This monster came in May 2024. That’s right. It only took five months to take him away. It was , Memorial day weekend we were sitting in The Slip Bar on the pier in Redondo Beach. Steve mentioned that his back was bothering him. we finished up and said goodnight ,see you in a few days. It was a fun weekend spent with friends in the South Bay. It was always fun when Steve was around It was 7:30 pm. Steve ended up at the emergency room early the next morning, at 4:30am.I never saw Steve again. Steve was a special guy he would give you the shirt off his back if he if he knew you needed it .The man was generous, kind and had the biggest heart. It was made of 14k gold. Steve was a family man. His loving wife, Amy, his daughters Cas , Syd, Father Ken ( cancer survivor) and Brother Mike sorely miss Steve’s gentle ways. His first Grandchild is due any day now…her name will be. “Stevie”. How absolutely perfect ❤!She will hear great stories about her namesake . His friends are still in disbelief, that Steve is no longer here. We all miss that smile and that great laugh, what a laugh. Its been seven months now. I still have a hard time trying to comprehend it. I keep waiting for the text show up on my phone from Steve. Waiting for a text that will never come.I will never forget my friend Steve Dunlap. Let me repeat it once more, I hate cancer. I hate the monster that is leukemia. I ride for…SD STRONGI lost, my Sister Maureen to this monster , many years ago. She put herself in bone marrow study, (at Sloan Kettering in NYC),. She wanted to help people in the future. It also took my Brother , Steve. Every one of us knows someone who has been affected by cancer. More and more people are starting to defeat cancer in ways that wasn’t available years ago. It is said, you can’t beat cancer alone, you need help. It takes a village. In a small way this event of riding stationary bikes is helping that village. This is why ..I ride.I thank you for taking the time to read the above . If you are inclined to throw a a little in the donation, you have my heartfelt appreciation !Thank you and love to all,Tom/Tommy/Buck
