I'm participating in the LA Cancer Challenge! The LACC helps the Hirshberg Foundation raise money to fund research and programs designed to improve patient care, offer better treatment options and, ultimately find a cure for pancreatic cancer.
Agi Hirshberg started the foundation in honor of her husband, Ron, who passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 53. I worked for both Ron & Agi in the mid-late 1990s when they owned their Adidas licensing company, Agron, Inc. ("Ag" for Agi and "ron" for Ron). Although Agi sold the business shortly after Ron's passing, I've stayed in touch with her ever since.
Agi was huge when my wife, Michelle, got breast cancer. When Michelle's first doctor said she needed a full mastectomy, removal of all lymph nodes, chemo and radiation, Agi got us in to a specialist at UCLA (the main hospital with which the foundation is associated) for a 2nd opinion within 24 hours of me calling her. UCLA recommended a far different treatment! Although we ended up at City of Hope due to its distance to our home, City of Hope 100% agreed with UCLA, and the rest is history. My wife has now been cancer free for over 20 years!
Although we regularly give to the foundation, this will only be my 2nd time walking in the event, and first time forming a team and soliciting donations. I felt this time I should provide more than just a check.
I am forever grateful to Agi, and would also be grateful if you would consider contributing towards my fundraising efforts today.
And if you feel so led, you can also join me, in-person or virtually, for a day of costumes and fun, remembering those we have lost and celebrating those who are currently battling this disease. Together, regardless of where we are, we can make a huge difference in the battle against pancreatic cancer.
To health and happiness...
