Bike Bob - Live Like Bob
I’m riding in the Tour De Pier on Sunday, May 19th at the Manhattan Beach Pier for “Bike Bob” to help cure cancer and I need your support!
Bob Saunders was passionate about this event and sponsored a team of bikes every year. Bob was at the 2021 Tour De Pier (in a wheelchair) - 15 days prior to passing away in September 2021- he wouldn't miss this event even if he couldn't ride.
Tour de Pier, now in its 12th year, supports the crucial work of three amazing charities: the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Uncle Kory Foundation and the Cancer Support Community South Bay.
These charities provide valuable resources for patients and families facing cancer while helping drive cancer research towards a cure. I am supporting their efforts by riding in Tour De Pier and fundraising so that no one has to face this disease alone.
Bob Saunders fought a courageous 4-year battle against Appendiceal cancer. Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 27, 2021.
Bob and I coached baseball in Manhattan Beach Little League together for 7 seasons.
Bob was a force of can-do-spirit and positivity. He was generous with his time, his knowledge and was a positive and patient teacher of the sport. He always respected the game, the opponent and focused on building team unity. His particular gift was helping others to believe in themselves. Bob was all about the team effort - win or lose.
Bob was often the first call I would make after drafting a team, because I knew our team would be better with Bob.
Bob Saunders coached Little League baseball in Manhattan Beach for many years and seven of those years Bob did not have his son Ryan playing on the team (as Ryan had aged out of MBLL). Bob helped me coach my boys Cole and Cade. I miss spending time with Bob and coaching with him. During four of the seven seasons we coached together, Bob was battling cancer. Together we had fun, we won many games, several league Championships, Beach Cup, TOC and All-Star games. Bob enjoyed all of it, being on the field or in the dugout, helping kids improve and hanging out after the games.
2024 is the first year that we have secured “Bike Bob”, a dedicated bike in Bob Saunders name and honor and I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to ride for my friend and to “Live Like Bob".
Here's how you can help:
It would mean the world to me and to the Saunders family to have your support by donating to my fundraising page for “Bike Bob”. Let’s come together to make a difference for all those facing cancer.
