Why I'm Riding...
My life has been touched by cancer too many times. In 1998, my dad lost his battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at age 61. I was 25 years old. He never got to meet my husband or my son or witness our successful family journey of recovering our son from developmental delays due to autism, ADHD, SPD, and language disorder. He is now a 19 year old musician here in the South Bay. I have also lost many friends to cancer or have witnessed other friends battle and succeed. Millions of people can tell stories just like this and it’s just TOO many.
On a bit of a more positive note, my 85 year old mom is a uterine cancer survivor. A cancer rarely occurring with any warning. Lastly, my older brother, now 53, is a survivor of Hodgkin’s Disease. He fought it at the young age of 36.
I have signed up for The Tour de Pier that will take place on Sunday May 19, 2024 from 8-12pm on the Strand in Manhattan Beach, CA. I will be riding one of those hours. Tour de Pier brings hundreds of stationary cycling bikes to create awareness and raise funds for 3 outstanding cancer charities: The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, The Cancer Support Community of South Bay, and The Uncle Kory Foundation. The event will also have a family-friendly health & fitness expo area for all ages where you can participate in games and events. There is also a retail merch area and don’t forget to grab some free swag from vendors.
Aside from volunteering and participating several times in Relay for Life, both back in Ohio where I grew up and here in California, Tour de Pier will be my next adventure in the fight to cure cancer.
Please consider any size donation to my fundraising efforts.
NO donation is TOO SMALL!
And if you attend the event, be sure to find me and take a selfie with me. :)
