Running for a Cure
Hello Friends & Family!
On March 17, 2024, I will be running in the LA Marathon as part of the Hirshberg Training Team! I expect to log nearly 500 miles in training and I've committed to raise at least $2,000.
The statistics is pretty grim. Pancreatic cancer is the #3 cancer killer in the United States. In 2020 alone, more than 40,000 people died from the disease. 75% of patients will die within the first year of diagnosis, and life expectancy is at 6 months. With the help of the Hirshberg Foundation and the top notch research talent at UCLA and worldwide, much progress has been made, but there's more work to be done. Your donations will fund important seed grants that will allow the research to continue, save thousands of lives for generations to come, and significantly improve the quality of life for MANY patients, who are fighting with dignity and bravery.
I am running in memory of my mom Wendy Yu Fong Yuen, who passed away from the disease in 2014. Mom had always taught me that perseverance is a skill that can be learned and practiced. This translates well into my life and my running career. The 2024 race will be my 7th consecutive LA Marathon. Not only did the experience of running marathons completely changed my life, running for such a great cause also reminds me of all the great values that Mom had instilled in me. Each training run is a chance to prove that nothing is impossible, and to never give up!
Please make a donation today and help me reach my fundraising goal. I will see you at the finish line!
Alan
