When is the LA Cancer Challenge and who does it benefit?
The 27th Annual event is on Sunday, October 27, 2024 on the campus of U.C.L.A. in West Los Angeles. In addition, participants across the country have the option of participating in the virtual LACC in their own cities, states and neighborhoods. The event benefits The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Where is the LA Cancer Challenge held?
The LA Cancer Challenge takes place on the beautiful UCLA campus. It starts and finishes in Wilson Plaza.
The 5K is 3.1 miles around the UCLA campus.
Please click here for the complete Race Day Schedule.
Our race offers the option for runners to be chip timed. Each runner will wear a chip timed bib number on the front of their body with a timing chip attached. The chip identifies runners as they cross electronic mats placed at the finish line. Bib numbers and chips can be picked up on race morning, or at Packet Pick Up.
Yes, children of all ages are welcome. Children being pushed in strollers do not need to register. Children running need to be registered. Adults can bring their children and either walk the 5K with them, push them in a stroller, or leave them with another adult from your party in the expo area while you race. (There will be lots for kids to do but they need to be supervised). Each year we have children as young as five walk or run the entire 5K. We also ask that families walking the race start at the back of the line and allow the competitive runners to take off first.
Our Fit Family Expo will feature food and beverage samples from our sponsors.
Please, for the safety of all runners, bikes, rollerblades, dogs, scooters, heelies, etc are not permitted along the race course. We encourage you to bike, blade or scooter to UCLA, just not along the course with the runners and walkers.
If you would like to save time on race morning, you can come pick up your running bib, timing chip, t-shirt and gift bag at Packet Pick Up.
If you cannot make it to Packet Pick Up, that's ok too! Simply arrive with ample time on race morning and proceed to the Pre-Registration Area.
The LA Cancer Challenge is a Halloween celebration too! We encourage runners & walkers to attend in costume. Tutus, capes, wigs, headwear and festive outfits make our event unique! However, the LACC is a family-friendly event and we will enforce the following Costume Policy.
- Costumes may not be obstructive, offensive, objectionable or violent.
- Masks are not allowed to be worn at all.
- Costumes may not contain any weapons, whatsoever, that could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.
- Costumes may not contain sharp objects or materials that may accidentally harm another LACC participant.
We have an app for that! Use our Good Move app to track your steps, whether on your daily walks or weekly training runs. Good Move links to existing fitness trackers or the tracking on your phone and you’ll earn points for your movement. Plus, with every activity you’ll be able to easily share your fundraising link with your community. Join your peers on the leaderboard, earn great fundraising incentives, and help make an impact in our community.
A virtual walk/run can be completed any time, place and at any pace you choose. Take a stroll or jog in your neighborhood, time a 5K on your treadmill, use technology to count your steps walking at home or (if local and state guidelines allow) select a park, walking path or location where you can walk or run while practicing social distancing. The choice is yours! We encourage a fun costume or simply wearing purple on Sunday, October 27th.
How can I make my virtual LACC a fun and festive walk/run?
There are plenty of ways to make your virtual walk/run special! Start with our Purple Spirit Box including awareness wristbands, purple ribbons and more. Honor your loved one by wearing a tribute bib or wear a LACC event bib. Invite family and friends to join you and select a location that brings you joy, whether it's a nature hike, a walk along the beach or lake, or a run through your favorite neighborhood. Get creative and don't forget to share on social media and tag us!
Do you provide suggestions on how to plan a special virtual LACC for myself, my family, and friends?
Yes! Check out our virtual event tips and resources where you'll find lots of suggestions.
No, the sale, transfer, or duplication of a race entry/bib is strictly prohibited. All entry fees are non-refundable and are considered a donation to the Hirshberg Foundation.
A team is a group of co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, or fellow students who can raise money together to compete for team prizes and run/walk together on the day of the LA Cancer Challenge. A team can range anywhere from 5 to more than 200 members.
