Ride for Team Scott (+ Patty) with us!

My brother, Scott, rode for Team Kory since the first year of Tour de Pier. He was friends with Rory, their kids' math teacher, and they rode to raise money for research to fight glioblastoma (Kory's cancer). Every year, he’d say to me, “Aim, you gotta’ join us.” I’d nod and smile, and he'd explain The Uncle Kory Foundation. I remembered zero about the cancer for which it started and only that it was an awesome event riding bikes on the beach. It left him elated.
But then in the year of cruel irony, my oblivious health privilege was shot to hell when Scott was diagnosed with the same damn cancer that took Kory's life. I reluctantly learned all about it and dove in 100% to beat it wholeheartedly. My brother was only 40 years old. This was not supposed to happen. Our family rallied, and so did our friends.
He was forever graceful in that struggle, though he passed within the year which is now five years ago. I was devastated.
My girlfriend, Patty, was one of my friends who fielded my shocked calls upon diagnosis, my angry tirades as the cancer progressed, and my deep sadness that followed. She rallied for the first Tour de Pier that we celebrated with Scott present in 2017, and she has ridden with us ever since.
In 2020, however, Patty was diagnosed with breast cancer. She, thankfully, *is* one of those beautiful shiny statistics that BEAT IT. It temporarily took her hair, but her new boobs are magic. Of course I wish she hadn’t had to endure it all, but I am ever so grateful for modern medicine and her unflappable friendship through the years.
I am so grateful she’s alive.
So, May 21st, we’re riding for Team Scott + Patty that honors Team Kory. Scott rode for Kory, Patty rode for Scott, so… we’re riding to better all of our statistics.
Who will you ride for? Ride with us! It's a day that reminds me of Scott's generous spirit, his love for life and his precious community. Together we honor that spirit and can make a difference. Let's ride in place and move charity forward!
xo,
Amy with Jeff, Jack, Calvin, and Cecilia
