Sorry this is so late as the Tour de Pier is next month but we have had some crazy things going on in our life. This is Marley McLaughlin as I told my parents this year I was old enough to write the message to go out to all of you. I think most of you know that I have had cancer 2 times, I had brain cancer at age 2 and then thyroid cancer at age 11. I really hate cancer but I fought hard and I beat it both times. I am now 13 years old and it is really hard as I have to be home schooled because I am still growing and they can not get my thyroid medicine right. Believe it or not I really miss going to school and my friends but I am doing my best. There are days I have a lot of energy and there are days that I have none. I realize how lucky I am as I have experienced the other side of cancer where not everyone lives. I have had friends who I met in the hospital that had cancer also and then I find out some of them did not make it. This is one of the main reasons why me and my whole family support the Tour de Pier. I want to find a cure for all cancer but also find a cure for children. No one deserves to have cancer but especially kids. I am one of them as it has taken a lot of my childhood away from me. Sometimes I don't want anyone to know that I have had cancer because I just wish I could be like every other kid that worries about school, friends and kid things. I told my parents this last year but my Dad told me that they were recognizing my fight and story as one of the 5 stories at the Tour de Pier. He also told me that I should never be embarrassed or feel like anything other than a beautiful young lady that is a warrior. It is hard to think like that but I am a warrior because having cancer has taught me to not worry about the small things in life and when there are big things to fight and fight hard to beat them. I am also lucky as I know I have God watching over me at all times and he was not ready for me to come home.
I would really like to ask you to help support me to raise a bunch of money to help beat cancer or at least help make some impact. If you want to come to the Tour de Pier and ride please contact my Dad or Mom and they can help you get signed up. If you just want to come hang with Team Marley we would love to have you. Thank You for your support. Love, Marley
