For the Good Humans
On May 19, 2019 I will be riding in place for the third time to move charity forward at the 7th annual Tour de Pier! There are too many good people in this world fighting against many different diseases and the TDP focuses on a cause that hits close to home.
In December of 2017 our RHCDS community lost our Head of Middle School, Scott Rush, to GBM. He was a mentor, a friend, an educator, and the biggest fan of all of the hundreds of student lives he touched. His encouragement made a difference to so many including my own son and he always knew how to put a smile on your face.
I also lost a very, very close friend of mine last April. She was diagnosed with GBM at the young age of 42 and passed only a few months later, just weeks before the last TDP. She was a positive, kind spirit and holds in her heart a very loving husband and four young children. I know she was there with me when I rode last year...there was a ladybug who landed on me at the end of my ride as the emotions were flooding my heart. She followed me home in the car and flew away toward the sky once I got home.
A little about the Tour de Pier...this event brings hundreds of stationary cycling bikes to the iconic Manhattan Beach Strand to create awareness and raise funds for three outstanding cancer charities: Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Cancer Support Community of Redondo Beach and the Uncle Kory Foundation. The Uncle Kory Foundation is especially important to my fundraising efforts because it was started in honor of Kory Hunter, my friend Rory's late husband, and it focuses on brain cancer research. The impact of this event is impressive and unlike anything else. I can't describe the emotions that overwhelm every single person whether they are riding or not. It's a movement.
There is a reason for everything, whether revealed to us or not. I know my reason for riding. Please consider contributing towards our fundraising efforts today. Together we can make a huge difference so that no one faces cancer alone. Let's ride in place and move charity forward!
Open your heart and eyes to the universe and it will speak to you.
As Mr. Rush would say...Be Good Humans.
