Running For A Cause
On March 19, 2017, I will be running in the LA 1/2 Marathon as a part of the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Research's Training Team. As a team, we expect to log nearly 250 miles and I've committed to raising at least $2,500.
I have chosen to participate in this year's event for 2 main reasons:
#1-This is the 20th anniversary of the Hirshberg Foundation! This amazing organization has raised over $100 million in funds to find a cure for Pancreatic Cancer. This year, I have committed to participating in all 3 main fundraising events, The LA 1/2 Marathon, The Tour De Pier, and The LA 5K/10K Cancer Challenge.
Many of us have been touched by this "silent killer", so we need to continue to find a cure.
#2-On Friday, October 16th of last year, I experienced severe chest pain that stopped me in my tracks. After a few minutes, they went away. After they came back again that following Sunday, I went to the ER. That evening, I was diagnosed with a Myocardial Infarction, commonly known as a heart attack. After several tests, and some prescribed meds, I was discharged. Thirty days later, I was given a clean bill of health from my cardiologist and told to "GO LIVE MY LIFE"!
How lucky was I! I received a warning sign, a do-over, a mulligan. An opportunity to stop and realize how precious life is. So now more than ever my mantra is LIVE LIFE WITH A PURPOSE. That is why I am running this race.
I then thought about those diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. There is no "second chance"
The statistics are grim, but with your help, we have a chance to improve them. Pancreatic cancer is the #3 cancer killer in the United States amongst both men and women. Nine out of ten pancreatic cancer patients will die. The average life expectancy after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is just 3-6 months.
There is hope, and there has been progress. Obviously not nearly enough. Please visit www.pancretic.org to learn more about The Hirshberg Foundation and the work being done. Thank you in advance for your generous donation today and help me to reach my fundraising goal!
Peace and Love
